Following the political changes of 1989, the agricultural land, forests, ponds and properties were returned through the restitution process and are now owned by Herrschaft Bechyne SE, based in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. The estate comprises 4,942 hectares of privately owned forest land, a further 260 hectares of forest leased from the municipality of Sudoměřice, 282 hectares of ponds, the Bechyně Castle complex and other properties in the Bechyně region. The estate is managed by the Czech company Panství Bechyně ltd.
The proceeds from forestry operations and timber trading are primarily reinvested in the care and sustainable development of the forests. In addition, funds are allocated to the preservation and restoration of the castle complex and other properties. Alongside these core activities, Panství Bechyně is also committed to promoting tourism in the region. To this end, a golf course was developed, the Hotel Panská on Bechyně’s main square was renovated, and the castle exhibition was opened to the public.
